Ball valve is a type of valve frequently used in industrial plants, designed to provide flow control. It derives its name from the spherical fluid-cutting element inside its structure. This ball is connected to the valve stem and provides control by opening or closing the flow when rotated. Ball valves are ideal especially when full closure or full opening is required, responding instantly thanks to their quick opening-closing mechanism. These types of valves are widely used across various fields such as the oil and gas industry, water treatment plants, the chemical sector, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) systems.
One of the main advantages of ball valves is their tight sealing structure. When the flow is shut off, the ball completely blocks the stream, ensuring zero leakage. This feature plays a critical role in systems requiring precise fluid or gas transportation. Furthermore, thanks to their durable construction, they can operate efficiently even under high pressure and temperature. However, ball valves are generally designed for full flow or isolation and are not well-suited for precise throttling or fractional control. Moreover, maintaining them in a partially open position for extended periods can cause valve wear and degradation. Overall, due to their ease of use, reliability, and durability, ball valves are indispensable control elements in the industry.
Solenoid valve is a type of valve that controls fluid passage utilizing electrical energy. Operating via an electromagnet, these valves are widely preferred in automated systems. The valve is actuated by the electric current passing through the coil, thereby controlling the direction or flow rate of the fluid. Solenoid valves are commonly used in water treatment systems, air conditioning units, air compressors, and industrial automation systems. Thanks to providing precise control and allowing remote management via electrical signals, these valves are highly functional in automation architectures.
One of the greatest advantages of solenoid valves is their fast response time. Upon receiving a signal, they can open or close almost instantaneously. This provides a major benefit, particularly in applications requiring rapid flow changes. Additionally, due to their compact structure, they can be utilized comfortably even in confined spaces. Operating with electrical energy eliminates the need for manual intervention, making them ideal for automated systems where human interaction is limited. However, because solenoid valves are continuous energy-consuming devices, careful consideration must be given to power efficiency. Furthermore, in environments involving high temperatures or corrosive fluids, solenoid valves manufactured with more rugged, resistant materials should be preferred.
Butterfly valve is another type of valve utilized for flow control and is particularly preferred in large-diameter pipelines. It takes its name from the disc-shaped structure used to regulate the flow direction within the pipeline. The disc structure of the butterfly valve is connected to the stem, opening or closing the flow with a quarter-turn of the lever or actuator. Having a simple and lightweight design, its installation and maintenance are exceptionally easy. It can be safely utilized in systems carrying fluids like water, air, and gas, as well as various chemical substances.
The biggest advantage of butterfly valves is their fast reaction capability. Since opening or closing can be achieved with a minimal stroke, it offers immediate intervention opportunities, especially during emergencies. Additionally, because it ensures a low pressure drop, it utilizes energy efficiently. It is highly cost-effective among large valve options for broad-diameter pipelines and delivers high flow capacities. However, the tight sealing capacity of butterfly valves is typically not as robust as that of ball valves; therefore, their use is limited in systems where zero-leakage is highly critical. Nevertheless, with advantages such as low cost, quick response, and durability, butterfly valves hold a significant position in the industry.
Pneumatic actuator is a device that generates mechanical motion utilizing pressurized air or gas. Integrated with various valves, these actuators minimize the need for manual intervention by providing remote control capabilities. Pneumatic actuators are widely used in air compressors, industrial automation systems, robotic equipment, and transport systems. They are frequently preferred in automation lines due to their outstanding functionality and high reliability.
The advantages of pneumatic actuators include high speed, reliability, and long-term durability. Operating with compressed air allows them to respond rapidly, successfully performing in systems that demand precise control. At the same time, they are safe devices with low explosion risks, making them suitable for safe deployment even in hazardous environments containing flammable gases. Their maintenance requirements are minimal and they are highly economical in terms of cost. However, the disadvantages of pneumatic actuators include the constant need for compressed air infrastructure and potential leakage challenges in certain setups. Yet, with features like durability and low operational costs, they play a critical role in the automation processes of industrial plants. Different design configurations tailored to specific needs, such as the Scotch Yoke Pneumatic Actuator, Double acting scotch yoke pneumatic actuators, single acting scotch yoke pneumatic actuators, rack and pinion gear type pneumatic actuators, and vane type pneumatic actuators, are offered under the assurance of KEYDAL quality.
